Large-scale connectivity: Connecting sensors and devices at scale
5G SA brings more than speed. It opens up new possibilities.
Iceland's 5G networks have expanded rapidly in recent years. The rollout of 5G Standalone (5G SA) marks a major step forward for the country's telecoms infrastructure. It makes networks far more flexible, allowing connectivity to be tailored to different users and services. It also supports large-scale IoT solutions, connecting large numbers of devices and sensors efficiently and securely. That makes 5G a foundation for innovation, automation and digital transformation across a wide range of industries.

Eyes on the road
Nova has partnered with Norwaves, Rafal and Vegagerðin (the Icelandic Road Administration) to pilot outdoor 5G cameras, using guaranteed bandwidth and priority on Nova's 5G SA network. The cameras stream high-quality traffic video from selected intersections in real time, without relying on constant human monitoring or immediate manual intervention.

AI analyzes traffic patterns
Using the camera data, AI can analyze traffic patterns and assess conditions automatically. The goal is to show what this new technology can do in practice. Similar use cases are already up and running in many other countries, for example in health care, logistics and agriculture.
