Goodbye 3G!
The Icelandic telecom companies are phasing out the 3G network
As part of a coordinated effort by Iceland’s mobile operators, the 3G network is being phased out to make way for newer, faster technologies. If your device doesn’t support 4G VoLTE calling, it will soon lose the ability to make and receive calls when 3G is switched off.

Goodbye 3G!
What is happening exactly ?
Why is 3G being phased out?
3G is being retired because it’s outdated and can’t keep up with today’s needs. By switching it off, we’re freeing up capacity for faster, more reliable, and more secure 4G & 5G, so you can enjoy stronger coverage, better call quality, and an improved mobile experience overall.
A joint transition to 4G & 5G
All mobile operators in Iceland are working together, in coordination with the Icelandic Telecommunications Authority, to retire the 2G and 3G networks nationwide. This follows a global shift away from legacy technology and toward modern 4G and 5G networks that deliver better performance, reliability, and security
Do I need to do anything?
We encourage you to carefully review the settings on your devices that may use 2G and 3G networks. If they don’t support 4G VoLTE, they may need an upgrade. Feel free to reach out to our customer service if you’re unsure whether your device supports 4G VoLTE.
